Red Creek Agricultural Barn Residence
Red Creek Residence

reflections
The Red Creek project is a main residence inspired by the agricultural barn—an unassuming style filled with potential design opportunities. Sited within a wooded clearing, the house is shaped by a deliberate tension: pitched roofs that project outward giving the structure lift and lightness, while angled columns running the full length of the façade drive it firmly into the ground.
A covered porch leads into a low-ceilinged entry foyer—intimate and compressed—before opening dramatically into the double-height kitchen, dining, and living areas. A loft catwalk above creates elevated perches from which the life of the house below unfolds. Extensive glazing along the circulation hall keeps the woodland ever-present, while the primary bedroom deepens this connection through a double-sided fireplace opening onto a covered deck beyond. Below, the lower level offers a generous rec room, man cave with wet bar, and a bedroom and kitchen—each with views into the trees.
At ZTC Architecture, we are drawn to projects that ask us to think carefully about how a building meets the land. The Red Creek project is a testament to our ability to take a vernacular form and elevate it.
