Hedges Historic Restoration and Guest Cottage
Hedges

reflections
The Hedges project was an opportunity that was as much about stewardship as it was about design. At the heart of the site stood a historic but long-neglected house—a structure full of character and potential, waiting to be brought back to life. Working alongside a carefully assembled team of consultants and designers, our role was to restore and reimagine this landmark while introducing a new two-story guest cottage that could serve as a fully realized space for comfort and entertaining.
The historic house was given a purposeful new identity as a dynamic gym space—its architectural character preserved while being modernized from within. The new guest cottage was designed as a quiet companion, sharing the palette and presence of the original without competing with it, and offering generous spaces equally suited to intimate stays or larger gatherings. Through strategic siting of the structures, the entire ensemble encompasses a central backyard garden, creating a shared outdoor living space that draws both the historic house and the new cottage into a unified and cohesive whole.
At ZTC Architecture, we approach historic projects with deep respect for what already exists and a clear vision for what a place can become.
