Custom Shingle Style Home in the Southampton Woods
Edge of Woods House

reflections
The Edge of Woods project is a custom home rooted in the shingle style tradition and shaped by its wooded site. The house is generous without being excessive, leaving room for refined luxuries to take center stage. The preservation of the existing woods was meaningfully managed to integrate well with adjacent nature reserves.
The plan is organized around a clear entry axis that moves from the front door through a cased opening into the living room and out to a covered porch beyond—fitted with wood storage and an outdoor kitchen. On the second level, shifting ceiling heights follow the roofline naturally, giving the bedrooms a cottage-like warmth. The exterior brings the design into its fullest expression: subtle flared gables, carefully coursed shingles, and a rusticated stone base produce a home that is unmistakably of its place, deeply rooted in shingle style.
At ZTC Architecture, we believe the best homes feel as though they have always belonged to their site and honor the tradition of chosen design styles.
